From Ms. Christine & again a bit of stuff on Sofia
Both the kids were up at about 8 this morning, so I took the chance to try and get out to play tennis at Ramsey playground before the heat took over. By the time we got to the courts, it was about 10:00 - it was hot, but not unbearable and we were able to play at the court that was pretty shady after a dad and his preschool kids left. Sofia was really excited to play tennis, while Holland, as predicted, was content to wander about the courts with a ball and racquet, watching us play. Later, he would get engrossed in playing with a ball, the container, and the lid. I tried a few things with Sofia, trying to figure out something that she could be successful with. I hit the ball to her to hit back, tried to have her bounce the ball on the ground, and drop it and hit it. She kept holding the ball up to her racquet and pretty much mildly throwing it while moving her racquet in the same direction. We talked about holding the racquet in a way so that she would have a "big racquet" to hit with instead of just the side of it. Finally, I tried throwing it to her, throwing with bounces, and then without bounces (kind of like baseball). I could see a lot of frustration on Sofia's face most of the morning, but she kept trying. At the end, she was able to get one really good hit in, and a few hits where she at least made contact with the ball. She was pretty proud of herself, doing a little happy dance.
We headed off to Barton Creek Mall to go to story time at Pottery Barn Kids. They read Curious George, gave out a couple things (a "story time passport," stickers, and coloring sheet), and we were free to explore the store. It was pretty fun for the kids at the store since they had a doll house, kid-sized kitchen, ironing board, and vacuum. We played there until about 12, visited the Build a Bear store quickly since Sofia wanted to visit another store at the mall before we left, and then went home. Holland conked out in less than 5 minutes in the car so Sofia and I had lunch together.
