Hammering & Farmers Market

Photos are from Wednesday’s visit to Farmers Market & write-up is from Ms. Christine --

Since Holland's been interested in hammering at school, I thought that might be a good bridge I could make at home.  He worked with the drill and hammers for maybe 10 minutes.  I brought out the alphabet puzzle for him to work on since he's been okay with the larger puzzles and he just seems to prefer small manipulatives more.  He's actually shown a lot of interest and some success in the alphabet puzzle - not taking them all out, but taking them out one by one and replacing them.  He is really interested in flipping the letters: some work if they're symmetrical like A, O, X and Y, but some don't, like P, B and Q.  He's been trying letters over and over.

And some pictures from the farmer's market.  Tim let Sofia get really involved.  She picked the butternut squashes, paid, and asked the grower about corn (since she likes corn, which they said will come later in the season).  One of the growers gave us a peach to sample, the kids tried a sample of lemonade and hibiscus tea, and a bakery stand gave us some samples to try too while they were sheltering us from the downpour.  Holland was really excited about the fountain.  Maybe we can play a little more next time if the weather's better.
